This enhanced scheme will make a positive difference to a growing number of older Australians looking for ways to better fund their retirement

COTA Australia welcomes the development of a new research centre at Flinders University in Adelaide aimed at finding ways to improve the delivery of aged care in Australia.

This is a first and very important step toward a more central focus on increasing retirement income within our superannuation system, which was endorsed by the Retirement Income Review.

COTA is honoured and very pleased that Stephen Judd accepted our invitation to become the Inaugural COTA Fellow.

Australians are invited to consult on the revised Industry Code for Visiting Aged Care Homes, developed by 12 aged care consumer and provider organisations led by Council on the Ageing (COTA) Australia.

State and Territory health regulations and directions need to urgently mandate that every resident can nominate at least one Essential Visitor (and a backup) to remain connected with, even during an outbreak.

The Council of Elders will formalize older Australians’ voices in aged care reform. Policymakers must be guided by the voices of lived experience. You can’t fix aged care without people in the room who have received it, and who know exactly what’s working and what isn’t.

COTA’s early call back in May for aged care staff vaccination to be made mandatory was met with scepticism and resistance by many, but a strong government approach and close coordination with providers and consumer organisations has made it a reality.

COTA leads consumer support for 25% pay raise for aged care workers

Catalyst Research is today launching its inaugural Aged Care industry study in partnership with Council on the Ageing (COTA) Australia. This is a national study to build an understanding of what people are looking for when choosing a nursing home.

“Over the past 20 years Pat has been a strong voice and leading thinker in many of the important reforms in aged care,” said Ian Yates, Chief Executive, COTA Australia.
Four organisations representing older Australians are marking Aged Care Employee Day with a special message for Australia’s aged care workers, thanking them for the extraordinary dedication, skill and compassion they have brought to their work throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
