Our Work

Our goal is to support the 9 million Australians who are aged 50 or older, and influence policy so that Australia becomes an equitable, just and inclusive society in which the voices of older Australians are respected and strong. We achieve this goal through our:

Advocacy

We are an advocacy organisation who lobbies for action at a national level.

We are broadly focused on policy areas such as health, aged care, employment, housing, retirement incomes, ageism and more.

Engagement

We communicate and engage collaboratively, especially with the diversity of older people, our partners, and with the Australian community through a variety of strategies which include:

  • consultation, surveys, focus groups
  • webinars, publications, public forums
  • COTA volunteers (including those on Boards and Policy Councils)
  • eDM’s, newsletters
  • our National Policy Council

Policy Development

The objectives of our policies, set by our National Policy Council are to:

  • identify issues for policy focus
  • prioritise and research issues and responses
  • determine policies based on member input
  • engage in research and dialogue
  • provide leadership and expertise on ageing issues
  • determine the main strategies for developing and advocating our policy agenda
