In responding to consultations about the New Aged Care Act rules on funding, COTA Australia has produced a supplementary submission on the new Higher Everyday Living Fees (HELF) regime.
The new system must live up to the promise to protect older Australians from the current practice of older people and families having to agree to pay additional service fees as a condition of entry into an aged care home.
Protections must be simple to understand for both older people and providers and expectations should be clear. The approach to HELF should give older people maximum choice.
