Our key message to the Senate Select Committee on Supermarket Prices is, “the amount paid at supermarket checkouts is a critical concern for many older households”. Our January 2024 survey shows food and grocery prices are impacting older households.
The key messages that you told us to share with the Select Committee are:
- Profit is fine if it is fair, transparent and justifiable.
- Prices do matter.
- Higher prices necessitate lifestyle changes.
- Government has a role to play in regulating supermarket pricing practices.
